The Delaware Department of Transportation is partnering with Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to fund a feasibility study that could expand the Lewes-Georgetown Bike Trail to include a new trailhead in Milton.
Notes from Bill Weller, Sussex Cyclists Advocacy Director:
Last night was the DelDOT presentation on the status of connecting Milton to the GLT. The turnout was amazingly large with about 200 people in attendance! In an outdoor tent in mid-November at night! And Sussex Cyclists were well represented.
DFH made sure there was a food and beer truck close-by. All tips at the DFH tasting room and food truck in November go towards help fund the study for this trail project.
The speakers were:
- Jason King, DFH Beer & Benevolence manager - Sara Bluhm, Sussex County Land Trust Executive Director - former Governor Jack Markell - Paul Moser, DelDOT planning engineer who provided a presentation on the history and plans for connecting Milton to the GLT. The next step is to conduct a formal planning study. However the study cost has come in at a price a little above the DelDOT budget. They are looking for additional funding sources.
