July 8, 2026 Event:

Last night’s Bike Smart event was held at Church St. and Canal Crossing in Rehoboth and we helped about 40 pedestrians and cyclists. The happy group shown below is comprised of Fern Goodhart, John Fiori, Lee and Heidi Lerch, and Jim Prettyman. We are over half-way through the season and still need club members to sign up to help. Come join us!

July 1, 2026 Event:

Just before the weekend’s heat wave set in, Anne Bari, Jim Futrell, Cassie Burns, John Fiori, Allen Segal and Jim Prettyman manned the Bike Smart event in Rehoboth just off the Trail. We helped a good number of cyclists and even took an internationally relayed message from one of our Safety Team members to fix a J-1 student’s bike on Rt 1. Amazing!

June 29, 2026 Event:

Last night’s Bike Smart event at the Lewes library was a HUGH SUCCESS! 
Helped by a significant amount of media publicity, we assisted about 60 cyclists and pedestrians by providing helmets, lights, maps, safety brochures, as well as helping with some repairs.

We were well represented by John Fiori of DelDOT, two members of the Delaware State Highway Safety team, Barry McMahon, Betsy LaPadula, Steve Grandinali, and Allen Segal and Jim Prettyman.

We could use a few more volunteers for tomorrow’s event at Church Street and Canal Crossing in Rehoboth - where we have always seen lots of cyclists.

June 24, 2026 Event:

Last night’s Bicycle Safety checkpoint was another successful event. Thanks to Jim Prettyman, Chris Braudy and Dave Wellborn assisting John Fiori of DelDot. Look for an article in the upcoming Cape Gazette as we were joined by a reporter during the evening. Still plenty of checkpoints scheduled, sign up and come out.

June 16, 2026 Event:

Sussex Cyclists Bike members were out in force at the Epworth Church Bike Event as we helped over 30 J-1 Students and local residents with equipment and repairs. The weather was perfect and we created some new friends as well. Ten more events to go and your help is absolutely appreciated!

June 4, 2026 Event:
Last night’s Bike Smart event was on Rt 1 and we were able to help some J1 students as well as others passing by. Our booth was manned by Doug Hawkland, and Anne Bari as well as John Fiori from DelDOT. As you can tell we find time to sit and catch up with each other.

June 2, 2026 Event:
Last nights Bicycle Safety Checkpoint was one of our most successful in a while. We helped over 40 cyclists and pedestrians promoting bicycle safety. Club members Jim Prettyman, Chris Braudy, Gail Seligson, Phil Verhalen were joined by John Fiori from DelDot and Mike Smith and Ben Beiler of Delaware Office of Highway Safety. If you want to help out at a future checkpoint, sign up, join us, and bring a beach chair if you have one.

May 29, 2026 Event:
This good looking group of Sussex Cyclists, including Brant Collins, Maureen Remedio, Fran Dance, Betsy Collins, John Fiori and Doug Hawkland helped kick off our first Bike Smart Event this year.

We have 15 more scheduled throughout the summer. If you haven’t signed up, please consider helping this great series of events. (Bring a beach chair if you have one).
