I was thinking last night (dangerous, I understand). We had 30 riders go about 2 hours in 3 groups without one mishap!
Hats off to the safety of the group and the ride leaders Fran Denny Shook, Mark Snader, and Mike Guida.
Cheers, Steve Mahaney

House moved to make way for new Nassau roadEarly stages of Minos Conaway Road project underway

A house across from Old World Breads has been moved to make way for a new road under the Nassau Bridge connecting New Road/Nassau Road with Janice Road. A warehouse on the property was recently demolished.
Charles “C.R.” McLeod, Delaware Department of Transportation Director of Community Relations, said the state purchased the property earlier this year.
“The parcel is part of our upcoming Minos Conaway project, and we closed on the acquisition earlier this year,” he said. “A private party has purchased the house and is relocating it to a new site close by. DelDOT is not paying for the relocation, however.”
The new road is one piece of a larger project in the Nassau area that will see major changes on both sides of Route 1 north of Five Points.
When complete, there will be roundabouts at the intersection of New Road and Nassau Road, and the intersection of extended New Road and Janice Road near the Lewes Senior Activity Center. The project includes service roads on either side of Route 1 north and south of Nassau Bridge. A trailhead is also planned off the southbound lanes of Route 1 near the Lewes senior center.
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2024. A spring 2027 completion date is anticipated.

Today was such a beautiful day I think we set a record. We had 30 Sussex Cyclist participate in the Dewey Beer Company Harbeson trail ride. Thanks to my co ride leaders Mark Snader and Mike Guida, we split into three groups and had a great, safe, successful 30 mile ride. Plenty stayed for some after ride debriefing! This ride occurs every Monday . I can’t always guarantee this beautiful weather, but we always have a good ride.
The Sussex Cyclists 20th Anniversary Dinner on October 19, 2023, was a great success! With 50 members in attendance, it was a night filled with fun, celebration, and wonderful memories.
Attendees enjoyed a slideshow by John Kurpjuweit highlighting our club's journey while enjoying appetizers, buffet dinner, cocktails and beer.
In attendance were Bernadine Wonderlin and Tony Pezone who spoke about the formation and early years of Sussex Cyclists. Tony was the club's first president and served for 10 years. Bernadine is the wife of the late Larry Wonderlin, the founder of Sussex Cyclists and one of a handful of cyclists who championed the trail in Cape Henlopen State Park. Also in attendance was Fran Cardaci, the first club Secretary, and a current member.
Thank you to our Social committee (Diane Daly, Heidi Lerch, John Kurpjuweit, Allen Segal, and Denny Shook) for a truly memorable event!

We're excited to share some great news about Steve Mahaney. Many of you know Steve as a dedicated member of our club, having ridden over 250 times with us since he joined back in 2018. But did you know that Steve is also a swimming legend?
Steve was the Swim Coach at Fairmont State University in West Virginia from 1971-1988 and was quite impressive! He was named 1977 NAIA Coach of the Year, won 10 conference championships, and coached 150 All-Americans, 13 of whom were four-year All-Americans.
Steve just learned that the University is renaming the pool in his honor! That's right, the Mahaney Natatorium is going to be a shining tribute to Steve's incredible legacy.
Way to go, Steve!
